Privacy Policy
The Baobab Institute respects your privacy. We collect only what we need, use it only for the purposes described here, never sell personal data, and comply with applicable privacy laws — including the New York SHIELD Act, the EU GDPR, and Senegal's Law 2008-12.
What we collect: (a) Information you give us through our interest form, internship and governing-body applications, email, or events: your name, email, phone, organization, and anything you choose to share. (b) Information collected automatically: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and general location, to keep the site secure and improve it. (c) Cookies and similar technologies — see our Cookie Policy. Please do not send confidential or privileged information through this site unless we have agreed in writing to represent you.
How we use it, and who helps us: We use your information to respond to you, process applications, run our programs, and operate the site. We rely on a small number of service providers who process data only on our instructions: Google (Workspace and Google Forms) and Cloudflare (hosting and security). We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell it.
Your rights: Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. EU and Senegal visitors have these rights under GDPR and Law 2008-12; California residents have rights under the CCPA. To exercise any right, contact us at privacy@thebaobabinstitute.org.
Children and youth (under 18): Some of our programs serve young people. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through this site without the consent of a parent or legal guardian. For anyone under 13, we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information, or we do not collect it. Youth-program applications will include a parent/guardian consent step. If you believe a child has given us information without consent, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers: We operate across the United States, the European Union, and Senegal. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we use appropriate safeguards as required by GDPR and Senegal Law 2008-12.
